Bangkokbits’ Tips on Buses

Travelling with buses number A1 and A2 are the most recommended among other buses as it will take the toll to Mo Chit BTS Station/Chatuchak MRT Station; travel time should be around 30-45 minutes depending on the traffic. Plus, the fare is only 30 Thai Baht which is considerably cheap comparing with taking a taxi (Other buses’ fares are between 8-20 Thai Baht). You can find Bus number A1 near Gate 6 and it will depart every 20 minutes.

Taxis

Travelling with Taxis is the most convenient method to get to Bangkok City Center. At the arrival platform, there will be notice boards giving direction to where taxis are parking.

Bangkokbits’ Tips on Taxis

It’s a sad truth but Bangkok taxis are not famous for foreigners (and for Thais as well!) but don’t worry, there are ways that you can minimize risk; calling taxis via reputable applications. The recommended ones are;

1. Uber; one of the world’s most famous taxi applications. Calling UberX and UberBlack from (to) the airport to (from) anywhere in Bangkok will cost you 300 Thai Baht and 1,000 Thai Baht respectively (toll is excluded). Payment is made by credit card.

2. Grab; a regional taxi application which is Uber’s main competitor. The fare for GrabTaxi is similar to calling a normal taxi (as it is a normal taxi) plus 25 Thai Baht. Payment is made directly to the driver. They also have an Uber-like service called GrabCar. Its pricing table can be found below (updated 12 December 2015);

Trains

At the arrival platform, there will be notice boards giving direction to Donmueang Train Station. It terminates at Bangkok Station (Hualumphong Train Station) which is near Hualumphong MRT Station.

Operating Time: Daily, around 3am to 11pm. It is recommended to check train schedule at www.railway.co.th first.

Travel Time: Approximately 50-90 minutes from Donmueang Train Station to Bangkok Station (Hualumphong Train Station).

Tickets: The fare for rapid trains is around 100-170 Thai Baht (please check with the staff at the train station again). Express trains and special express trains are not recommended as they cost a lot more.

Bangkokbits’ Tips on Trains

Travelling by trains is only suitable for a person who is in no rush. During peak hours, it could take more than 90 minutes as the railway cuts through roads in Bangkok City Center and trains have to wait for the traffic. This often results in trains not arriving on time.

Transfer between Airports

You can take a free bus from Donmuaeng Airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport at Passenger Terminal on the 1st Floor. The service is available from 5am to 12am (midnight).

Buses arriving from Donmuaeng Airport will drop passengers at Passenger Terminal on the 4th Floor, Gate 5.
