Airport Rail Link is an express rail connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport with Bangkok City Center. It is the best way to travel between the Airport and Bangkok city center considering price and travel time.

Operating Time: Daily, from 6am until 12am (midnight). During peak hours (6am to 9am and 4pm to 8pm of weekday), trains will depart every 12 minutes and it will be 15 minutes for off-peak and weekend. You can also download Airport Rail Link Timetable for more information.

Bangkokbits’ Tips on Airport Rail Link

1. If you have small luggage, travel alone (or have a few travel companions) and are not in rush, travelling with Airport Rail Link is the right method for you.

2. During peak hours, Airport Rail Link is the most optimized method to get you to Bangkok city center and vice versa. Other methods like taking a taxi or a bus are not recommended as you don’t want to get stuck in traffic for hours.

3. There is also the high-speed train service called ‘Express Line’ but it is currently under maintenance until further notice.

Taxis

Taxis are available at Suvarnabhumi Public Transportation Center; platform of arrival terminal on the 1st floor gates 4 and 7. The fare is according to the meter plus a fee of 50 Thai Baht for the driver.

Bangkokbits’ Tips on Taxi

It’s a sad truth but Bangkok taxis are not famous for foreigners (and for Thais as well!) but don’t worry, there are ways that you can minimize risk; calling taxis via reputable applications. The recommended ones are;

1. Uber; one of the world’s most famous taxi applications. Calling UberX and UberBlack from (to) the airport to (from) anywhere in Bangkok will cost you 300 Thai Baht and 1,000 Thai Baht respectively (toll is excluded). Payment is made by credit card.

2. Grab; a regional taxi application which is Uber’s main competitor. The fare for GrabTaxi is similar to calling a normal taxi (as it is a normal taxi) plus 25 Thai Baht. Payment is made directly to the driver. They also have an Uber-like service called GrabCar. Its pricing table can be found below (updated 12 December 2015);

The most famous mobile operators are AIS, DTAC and TRUE. There will be counters of these operators around arrival gates and you can purchase local sim cards there.

Bangkokbits’ Tips on Sim Cards

Among these three, AIS is probably the best option for travelers as they provide best service.

Other Useful Tips

1. Meeting Point: The most famous meeting points are at Gate 3 and 4. Around that area, there will be a lot of people waiting for their customers, families or friends. Therefore, it is recommended for you to avoid that and appoint the ones coming to pick you up at Gate 5 as there will be fewer people there.

2. Baggage storage: There is a baggage storage service available on the 2nd floor in the Arrival Hall. The cost is 100 Thai Baht per day per bag. Baggage claim service is on the 4th floor in the Departure Hall, behind Counter Q
