Levels – Sukhumvit Soi 11

Located towards the end of Sukhumvit Soi 11, a street packed with many great restaurants and bars, inside the aloft Hotel, beholds a very large clubbing venue called Levels. An all age encompassing crowd most popular with expats, tourists and Thai females originating outside of Bangkok.

Levels broadcasts strong red hues with a large patio outside for smokers, the main clubbing room featuring bottle service on sofa tables along the edges, smaller tables throughout the center and a large center bar. Upfront is a dancefloor and stage in front of the DJ booth, occasionally hosting international talent.  In the back room you have another two bars and hip hop beats playing, although this room is typically only open on the weekends. The Club

A bit outside the city center is the most concentrated center of backpackers and wary travelers strung from all over the world converged on Khaosan Road. After many pale buckets of thai whiskey mixed with RedBull and Coke outside on the street, visiting tourists and nearby Thai college students stumble into “The Club” to get wild.  Don’t expect anything fancy here.  But do expect cheap drinks and an international crowd ready to get wild on the dance floor and on stage next to the DJ booth. The blissful and pumping sound system are spilt between the Dalmatian lounge on the lower floor playing smooth techno beats and trance while upstairs is more deep house and EDM beats.

One thing that stands out is there are no annoying tables in the center making space for patrons to let loose. The bar whips up signature cocktails and the club brings in niche international DJs. No cover.

Just down the street from Onyx you will come across a large wood maze-like spread out club nostalgically named Route66, one of the oldest nightclubs in Bangkok. Nightclubs for Locals:

Aside from foreigner catered nightclubs, there are even more clubs available where the locals go party. A fun side note is that Thais use the word “pub” to describe nightclubs. So next time you hear a Thai say, “let’s go to a pub tonight” they aren’t referring to and old British watering hole to down a pint, they are instead meaning to get wild, likely with the Thais choice of liquor, whiskey, at one of these music packed venues.

In addition, in about half of the nightclubs for the locals, they like to mix live bands playing Thai pop/rock hits and occasionally switch back to dance hits from the speakers. Those looking for a taste of where the local Thais go to get wild, check out one of Bangkok’s top 5 nightclubs for Thai locals, in no particular order:

Demo – Thonglor

In a high-end area in between Thonglor and Ekkamai is a plaza called Arena 10 hosting a mix of high-end clubs and restaurants catering to mostly young socialite Thais. If you want to go there, arrive early or call to book in advance as Nunglen is one of the most packed nightclubs in Bangkok, especially on the weekends.
